Smile  Wiimote being a Sega ripoff?

The mysterious Dreamcast controller prototype discovered by GWN looks similar to the Wiimote, but do they have any connection? Notice the lightgun adapter at the top right which looks very similar to the Wii gun adapter shown at E3!

While looking through some old console prototypes over the weekend, I stumbled across what is described as a prototype controller for the Dreamcast. It looks remarkably similar to the Nintendo Wiimote, with a trigger on the bottom, buttons on top and wireless technology. All that's missing is the Nun-chuk attachment.

Despite slightly being offtopic, PS1 and PS2 pads look kinda similar to SNES pads.
Hence why Sony proceeded to produce boomerangs Wink

All of them keep copying each other after all.

And long before the DC arrived, there was also a collection of ideas for Nintendos "Project X" on a british mag, where they had some nearly wiimote ideas and pics...
So probably Sega stole it from them!? Toungue
But like HCR said, it's always the same: better to steal a good idea, than inventing a new bad one!

Nintendo pretty much "invented" all the success stuff of consoles. Anyone remembers the PS1 gamepad layout, including button position and lateral buttons ?

I'm pretty sure it's because initially Sony was going to make a CD-ROM add on to the SNES but Sony wanted to own the rights to the games because the games were going to be on their discs. So Nintendo didn't want to give rights of their valuable IPs to another company so they secretly started to team up with Phillips behind Sony's back (the co-creator of the CD, IIRC). Sony was pissed off and decided to not to be partners with Nintendo and make their own system instead. I assume that's why the layout of the PS controller resembles the controllers of Nintendo systems since it was the original idea that Sony had in mind when they were planning with Nintendo before the breakup. I could be wrong though.

WTH? Regardless of previous "collaboration", they blatantly COPIED SNES's gamepads. Copypasting ideas they didnt own or come up with isn't really excusable here by such a reference to the shortlived attempt to come up with a CD-enabled, improved SNES console

Sega made something like it for DC. Nintendo had something for it on the SNES, bundled with a baseball game.

It's funny, I dunno what game could have a good use of that controller prototype. Virtua Tennis maybe?

RE: Wiimote being a Sega ripoff?

My friend has Fifa 08, I didnt really like it, though its not that bad, its just a flick on your wrist other than a button, its a much simpler game. I prefer PES over Fifa so just wait for that to come out.
