Cool  Videocard upgrade

Yeah baby, the Radeon X1950Pro AGP has arrived earlier this month. Just ordered the Sapphire one myself Grin

It owns the hell out of my 7800GS, here's a nice review as well btw. I hope cooling will be sufficient.

A proper comparison can be found here. It's in german but google translate does its job really well.

Got myself the 512 mb version, and in case you're wondering, to hell with PCI-e Toungue

Hopefully it will be here by friday or saturday.

RE: Videocard upgrade

Well this is currently the fastest AGP card available, and it is in not a single way inferior to the PCI-e version of the card, proven by benchmarks Smile

Of course with PCI-e you do have more choice, but even then this would've been my preferred card.

Got a 6200 A-LE today. Yuck. Light Edition. Not to mention the driver problems.
Going to get another at the store tomorrow.

And Cid, don't forget to post pics of your games with your new baby! Wink

RE: Videocard upgrade

It is too bad that driverheaven didn't use a 512mb version of the (PCI-Express)X1950Pro to compare it with (with matching clock speed). I am not surprised that they performed similarly considering that I have seen previous tests comparing 4x vs 8x AGP slots which showed little difference in most cases.

I just got a Sapphire card (x1900gt) myself last week and it was quite a step up from my 6800nu (2-3x better in some cases). Hopefully your card works really well too.

RE: Videocard upgrade

Well so far I've seen good results with NWN2, very pleasing because the game runs at a higher and more constant framerate, with less stuttering.

I agree on the Driverheaven review, they should've given the PCIe version an equal chance by running it on a 16x mobo. I doubt it will make any difference though, they're equally clocked and AGP hasn't shown a sign of being a bottleneck so far.

A friend of mine got the same card as yours last week, he was equally happy coming from a 7300GS. I think the X1950Pro is a slightly faster card though, I recommended it to him, yet the store recommended him their 'newly acquired' X1900GT. Read some on Tomshardware how it performs less, and in the end the card cost him more as well. Noobish shops Toungue

But in the end all that matters is if he's happy with what he has, and he is Smile
