After MyBB refusing to work properly on my site, I tried SMF instead, but this wont even get past the first page of the installation, I enter the nessacary details and it just comes up with "could not connect to ftp server with this combonation of details", I think that its something to do with some files not being CHMOD'd to be writeable, but whenever I try to change them via ftp commander, it says "error, no such file or directory exists", so really I've got 2 problems, any advice on how could solve one, or preferably both would be great...

Where are you hosted btw? SMF is pretty straightforward.

I got a quotaless account, and I made very sure everything was put in correctly. I think I worked it out though, one of the files I uploaded isnt the samn size as the original, so maybe it got corrupted, I'll try and re-upload it....

EDIT: i alwys do this, create a thread and find out what was wrong just after For some reason settings.php was about half the size it should have been, it works now, cheers for your time Rikki

If your site adress is too long , it'd be nice to have it shortened to .co , .co.uk or cjb.net
cjb.net offers free redirection to the real adress, and it'd look like "magichobo.cjb.net" instead of the way longer adress.

I'd recommend a .co.uk redirection though, if not .com , as cjb.net's only real advantage is the free factor, and pretty much *nothing* else.

Im planning on getting a .co.uk domain soon, and I think that I can use it with my quotaless site.

For a good example of how good looking yours could turn, I suggest you drop in at mogster's site, so far, it's been nothing but satisfying and promising-looking.

SMF installed fine here, the installation and conversion from phpBB went quite smoothly. There's still some minor quirks, like apparently the skin is too wide in lower resolutions, old smileys just leave BB tags, and the SMF plugin uses [youtube] tags differently. So there's lotsa non-functioning BB code lying around.
Nothing me and compmann can't sort out within a few days. However, I was out most of today, because my GCSE results came out, and it was my sister's birthday.

Your forum looks good, better than mine atm, it might help if mods would installl as well
