Thermaltake Big Typhoon VX (New cpu cooler)

Warning, boring story ahead

I got bored so I thought I would let everyone know in my overclocking goals for my conroe (that gaol is to run at at least 3.0ghz with my cpu running below 50 degrees). I can currently run at 2.8ghz with stock cooling. So I am investing in a new cpu cooler, the Thermaltake Big Typhoon VX ), I was always planning on getting a better cpu cooler anyway, why invest money in a conroe without one rightToungue .With this fridays paycheck (moneys a little thin for me at the moment) I should have enough to march down to the PC store and get myself my cpu cooler, and hopefully enjoy the coolness (notice the pun) of it.

Thermaltake Big Typhoon VX

I will post back how things turned out.

RE: Thermaltake Big Typhoon VX (New cpu cooler)

So I now have it and thought I would post a small graph so you can see the difference it made.

These where taken using Intel TAT, within 30 mins of each other.

STOCK

@ 1.8
Idle = 44/44
Full Load = 53/53

@ 2.8
Idle = 47 / 45
Full Load = 59 / 58

Thermaltake Big Typhoon VX

@ 1.8
Idle = 35 / 35
Full Load = 43 / 43

@ 2.8
Idle = 40 / 39
Full Load = 51 / 50

Big decrease in the temp here, roughly 10 degree's C.

RE: Thermaltake Big Typhoon VX (New cpu cooler)

haha, The warnings not to be taken likely, it will bore you to tears.

It cost me $69 AUS (roughyl 53 US), yes its a fairly big cooler, it fit inside my Thermaltake Soprano with a lot of room to spare (well a good inch and a half between my side intake fan and the Big Typhoon Vx's.

If your using a X2 or a Core2Duo, I highly suggest you get your hands on one of these bad boys.

Its more fun confusing people.

I was considering getting a better heat sink (that one, a Scythe, or the Tuniq tower) when I purchased my C2D. How difficult was it to mount? Did you have to remove the motherboard?

@Andrets
It was extreamly easy to mount, the VX version comes with a special mount for LGA775 CPU's. I did it in less than 2 mins. All you do is Unclick the old one by poping up the mount clips then turning them, clean off the old thermal paste with a cotton bud, put new thermal paste on the cpu, put the big typhoon over the holes and press the clips into the mobo and turn them so it locks in, thats it, your done. And no I didn't have to remove my mobo.

@chu tuoc
Something is REALLY wrong with those temps, toe C2D should never be running above 60, you can actually cause damage physically to your cpu at 80 degree's.

Update
After having it burn in for awhile, im having even better results.
Running @ 3.1ghz
Idle = 33 / 33
Full Load = 47 / 45

RE: Thermaltake Big Typhoon VX (New cpu cooler)

56/57 on full-load sounds fairly average for the stock cooling @ 2.4ghz, maybe a tiny bit too high. It was the Full Load @ 80 / 80 which was dangerously high.

What case are you using, as my temps were fairly low on the stock due to my case had good air flow (2 intake fans, 1 exhaust).

I was getting 59/58 @ 2.8ghz with the stock, now I run it below 50 on a full load. If your going to spend the money to buy a Core2Duo I highly recommend getting yourself a after market cooler (obviously i suggest the Big Typhoon VX).

As you can see in the screenshot I post I now run at 3.1Ghz with temps of 47/45 on full load.

Sure (Sorry for the long time to reply, been busy).

NOTE: I was too lazy to remove my side panel for the photo, so theres a intake fan in the way lol.

Holy crappamoly, now I see why they call it Big Typhoon. I wonder if it would even fit in my case.
