Staff Members, Introduce Yourself Here

Alright, So this is the place where the staff members can introduce themselfs (expierence, background, anything you want, etc.). We've had this on the generalemu forums past and I really enjoyed reading the expierence that others have that make this forum so great and friendly.

So to start this all off...

Hi, I'm Schattenberg (or schattenberg88 from ngemu) I've been around emulation since around 2001, and worked with GeneralPlot for a very long time. We didn't get off to a good start in communicating, but look where we are now. Back in 2001, I first became interested by watching Super Mario for NES run on the computer for the first time.Ever since then I've been captivated by console games running on the computer.

I've first got into computers with 2 "Kaypro 1's" that ran CP/M with the 5 1/2" floppy disk back in the early 90's. Those were fun days. I just used it to play Monochromatic games and nothing else. By 1994 I got a computer running Windows 3.1. From there my computer knowlege shot off. I learned just about everything about it. About 6 years later (still running Windows 3.1), being the person I am, I expeiremented with some system files and broke it. I was pretty bumed. So that was the time I decided to get a system running Windows 98. Thats where I was first introduced to PCSX2. That system still works great. But soon after I wanted more. I wanted to go mobile, so I got a laptop from 1995 running Windows 95. And now here I am today with a Inspiron 5100 still into emulation and always will. It might sound funny, but my all time favorite OS is not your 95, 98, 2K, XP, or Vista, but just the basic Windows 3.1. I miss the Windows 3.1 OS and the Kaypro and wish that I still had it today.

Well,
I've been a staff member here ever since the very beginning of this sites existence. You probally dont see many posts from me because I'm mostly working behind the scenes making sure everything is in working order along with GeneralPlot. If it wasn't for him, this place/site wouldn't even exist.

Other expierence that I've had is I've been a unofficial beta tester for a modified version of "GStaris" (back when PCSX2 v0.6 was around). Back then this version was able to get up to 30-50fps (60fps if you were lucky) in the BIOS. I've also been a beta tester for various add-ons for a Space Flight Simulator titled OrbiterSim (http://www.orbitersim.com). These add-ons were "Clydesdale" [(massive freight station) not that it matters...fixed a major bug in the scenario file] and also a "NASSP Enhancement Pack" (almost real moon terrain where the apollo missions landers landed).

Recently, I've made a new addition to this site, an unofficial PCSX2 Archive (http://www.generalemu.net/pcsx2archive), for people who want to expierence earlier builds of PCSX2. Why? I've been around PCSX2 for ages, and really became interested in it with the release of PCSX2 v0.3 or 0.4, and thats when I've stayed hooked.

As you can tell, I've got lots of history behind me and am an asset to this community/forum.

Your turn...

RE: Staff Members, Introduce Yourself Here

Great thread Schatten. However, if I didn't have your help in the beginning, I don't think General Emulation would have been anything more than just an idea that got away. We started as a small forum on a free forums hosting site using phpbb, and to a very small group of people. Nobody will remember those days like me and Schatten. What a difference, hey bro?Smile Now, of course, things are way different. We average about 10,000 unique hits on a monthly basis, and that number is growing.
Anyways, you all know who I am and what I do. Official betatester for PCSX2, Super Moderator at NGEMu and lover of everything Asian.Toungue I'm a graduate student from the University Of Washington in Seattle, majoring in Computer Science and managed to get my Bachelor's in the field. I've been into emulation for close to a decade, but only over the past couple of years I've gotten really involved in the scene. I love the technology that emulation is as a whole. It's amazing to see various consoles based on MIPS processors running on x86 architecture, and never ceases to amaze me. I'm Schatten's partner in this site, and I'm glad to have him with me on this venture. I couldn't have picked a better friend to do this with.Smile

RE: Staff Members, Introduce Yourself Here

Mmm, staff-related info as opposed to user-related info? Not much here. Been lurking on ngemu on and off since '02 although I think I only registered in '05. Found this place through General Plot's signature there sometime this year, if I recall correctly.

Relevant background, hmm. In my capacity as a lecturer I teach an introductory programming class as well as math. Got a few years' Z80 and 8801 assembly experience among other things, but really, that's like ancient history. Could probably help if things were desperate but my crazy offline schedule prevents me from committing - better leave emulation to the pros Wink Oh, and I'm part of an amateur band. Great at copying and useless at creating - we're basically a bunch of bored yuppies with instruments and the inclination to play them instead of singing in the bathroom like normal people do Tongue wink

Good day folks, enjoy yourselves.

RE: Staff Members, Introduce Yourself Here

Miretank/Safer64/dfender/powerUser, 16 years old (will be 17 next monday REMEMBER OF GIFTS TO ME Grin), brazilian, depressive and hypocondriac, funny evil bastard, deskmodder (recently I've got basics on Skinning for Window Blinds), and hmm, student of college's last year.

Have started my life in emulation about 3 or 4 years ago, back in the days I was a lil chubby nerdy thingie that had a Sega Dreamcast <3 . Played Dreamsnes and a Mega Driver emu, got an insane passion for "EMULATERS" and "ROOMS". As you can see, I did not start my "emulife" with a PC, I was damn poor. Well, still I am. Sad

Then got this PC about 2 or 3 years ago. Damn noob, didn't even know to turn this s**t on! Big Grin But then got learning lil by lil, and got to know about emulators, like Project64. Then a dude borrowed me a CD with PJ64, it was completely messed up, then by searching and configin' it, I GOT LE ZELDA TO WORK ^_^. But later I discovered about the installer setup that auto-configures everything, so what I did was a waste of time. Big Grin

Started to know forums by around April/June 2005, Emutalk to be exactly. What a school! Learned to be pwnd, mocked, learnt to fight, learnt to use php tags, etc. =p 3 months later, I've knew NGemu. Good days out there ^_^ but then, well, hmmm, this year came and o well, mreh, NGemu's still there. =p Tho there was the place where I've known the coolest persons around. Smile In the meantime, got registered to random forums, three from Brazil, and some deskmodding forums. Ah, I had even launched two Visual Styles on those forums, an Emutalk visual style and a Dreamcast VS. ^_^

Got to know Plot, James Plot, on IRC. Was an IRC noob, he got me by the ears and said "LEARN THIS s**t OR DIE! I HAVE LICENSE TO KILL!" and I got learn the IRC. Smile I remember when he was teaching me to control bots and stuff, le cool. Smile Then we started a friendship and now he's my bitch. Smile

Beggining here, I was Super Moderator then got an Admin position. AND YES, I AM STILL VIRGINZ, DIDN'T LOSE ANYTHING BY TURNING ON ADMIN! Big Grin

Now all I want to do here is to cheer up the place, to read Nevermore's Comics, to ban sour people, and to see this place growing. Smile

That's it, Mire's here for it!

RE: Staff Members, Introduce Yourself Here

Hi there,My nick is raksmey1309 my real name is raksmey (pretty original huh?).Well, My full name is "Chum ChanSovanRaksmey".I am 19 years old.In Cambodia(Nah it is a country in south-east Asia) people have very long name like that. Some have much longer than mine.Toungue (kk just call me raks....Tongue wink)

I am nothing special but an Economic student in year 1.Though i hate this stupid subject.I always want to study IT in my whole life but in Cambodia it is going to be very hard to find a job related to PC.That wont stop my decision. In the near future i am going to apply for another University.OH i almost forgot to mention in high school i am very good at math and science subjects.(always get A or A+)Tongue wink In contrast i am very bad in social subjects.(boooooring....)

About Emulation scene it began  back in 2000 when my dad bought me a brand new(Pentium III 800 Mhz,nVdia TNT 8MB,32MB ram) yes it cant compare to my current PC but that probably the best i can find here.Everything is pretty new to me i remembered that time i dont even know how to type and even turn on or turn off PC...Tongue wink So i started learning how to type in a private school.I rapidly absorb that skill so fast it took me only 2 days to learn how to type and Windows component...yes that sounds crazy but people have to start from zero first. One year later when i know a little the magic use of Internet. One day i found a cool site that have many NES emulator. It is the gateway for me to understand some more emulators like SNES,GB,GBC....
In 2003 when my PC cant handle most PC game so i decided to upgrade to this current PC as you can see about my sig.Alot have changed that time i know how to use yahoo messenger(That's the only chat software i can use)...Untill 2005 Emutalk is the only forum that catch my interest.I am a super noob there since than though it is the first place that drawn me deep into emulation scene.Later i started to know many people there but the most important moment is when i pop up in mIRC from there i started to know many nice people for example `plot`.Tongue wink

About my interest, Yes of course the first one is GAME and the second is the INTERNET i cant live without them.Sad (And also flirting girl...Big Grin...little joke here..Toungue )

Same as everyone else i am here to help people, the forums and expecially to share the JOY.....Grin

RE: Staff Members, Introduce Yourself Here

Hi to you all,
name is Hatman and i live in Hamburg, Germany. As for my occupation, i spend the last 10 years either in universities (Information- and Media engineering) or random jobs. Sadly i never managed to get a degree but i promise not to behave too stupid. Wink Right now i'm working in a digital printing company and this one's prolly gonna stay for a while.

What else .... well, i've been an emulation fan since the late 90s. Being a fan of anime and final fantasy sooner or later got me to ngemu.com. I collected most of my posts (wich aren't many) in epsxe and FFIX related threads. Always trying to help get the best outa it. ^^
A few months back i started getting a real interest in pcsx2 (wonder why Rolleyes ) and started posting more frequently again. For me, an emulator in these stages is the most interesting. Always someone asking for help with his config or someone posting screenshots of the latest beta with a game you haven't seen run yet. Playstation emulation has been quiet far too long. And i'm happy i can take a (small) part in it by being Moderator here. Smile

Hobbys ... i have hobbys, yes! *nods*
When i was 12 daddy bought me a computer!
.
..
...
Yeah sad, i know. Been a junkie ever since. I'm a gamer in pretty much every category there is. My anime collection is bursting the shelves. I love music (as long as it rocks) and i do video editing whenever i have time for it. I love messing with my comp but still didn't have the money (and patience) to install water cooling. When i'm bored of my PC games and pcsx2 crashes on me i play MMOs such as Anarchy Online or Silkroad. And thats ... pretty much all i can think of right now.

So, what am i doing here? Plot needs help and by pure coincidence we had a little chat today. So here i am, for good i hope. And i also hope to have a fun time with ya all. Beer

See you in the threads
Hatman
