Been looking for a decent MMO without falling into the all-flash-no-substance trap. Well, here's Iron Realms and their 4 worlds. There's a catch: they are text-based MUDs.
3. Why should I play your games instead of World of Warcraft or Everquest II?
If you've played any of the big MMOs, you know that they are about one thing and one thing only, fundamentally: killing monsters. That's pretty much it. Yes, many of them add on things like realm vs. realm combat and crafting, or a limited PvP endgame, but there just isn't much of a world there.
Our games are different. They have player-run city-states that can do everything (depending on the game) from develop subdivisions for player housing to go to war with each other to set property tax rates on player shops within the city's territory. You'll find all sorts of systems that you simply aren't going to find in a game like Warcraft - player-run libraries, the ability to become a bookie, tons of GM-run roleplaying events, active and meaningful religions with GM-run Gods. Sure, our games have monster bashing, but it's just one of many, many things to do.
In short, what you'll find is that you're trading eye-candy for depth and breadth of content when you switch from a World of Warcraft to a world of the Iron Realms.
DRM's sole purpose is to maximize revenues by minimizing your rights to be sold back to you.

Still playing Neverwinter Nights regularly on a Persistent World, of course the game isn't for free, but online gameplay is free of course. The server where I play is focused on roleplay thus character interaction, grinding for levels is boring and makes me feel like committing suicide right away, it's that pointless.

After having paid the initial €38,- for Test Drive Unlimited online play is free for everyone. You can't get online using warezed copies so don't try, and the game is pretty large to DL as well  Too bad there's no demo version, despite the game needing a test drive on your PC before deciding to buy, because it's pretty heavy.
It really files like driving around in a living, breathing world. Even nature and vegetation feels lifelike, but of course it's other players that make it fun.
