Members-only Section

How does the idea of adding a members-only section sound ?

For those who don't hang on IRC often, if at all, it could be a safe discussing haven between members, for regular discussions and members-only talks and ramblings.Tongue wink

Would you support adding a members-only section here ?

RE: Members-only Section

Also, to point out, the permissions system will allow me to make the forum viewable by unregistered members on the index and they can even enter it to see the list of threads, but would not be able to open any of the threads within it. As HCR suggested, this could be an incentive for new members to register. All in all, I'd say it's worth a shot, but I'll let others have their say before we act on it.Tongue wink

RE: Members-only Section

Yeah that would be nice, considering it was within the rules of course.

Could provide an area that only members could see and post in without it being viewable to lurkers/unregistered or anonymous visitors.

Would it be only viewable/postable to members only, or will non members (unregistered) still be able to view it but not post?

Unregistered members would not be able to view the thread content at all. They would only be able to see the forum on the index page and the list of threads within it, but permissions would block them from viewing any threads within it.

RE: Members-only Section

I choosed no. We already have a lot of sections, and IMHO, we don't need to add another one. It's not a problem if unregistred user can see what we write and it's unuseful to have a lot of new members registering here just for reading and not for posting anything. That's my opinion, let's wait for the other members/mods to talk. Smile

I see, that would be good. I also agree with Tamarro to wait and see what the others have to say and make a final decision based off of that.

If the other members don't really see a need for one, then there probably really isn't a need for one. I do agree as well although I would like to see a members section that it might produce extra clutter or make it more difficult to moderate seeing as we already got plenty of sections here to worry about keeping clean. Wink

RE: Members-only Section

Sounds like another "spam forums" to me so far I think having an open OT area with topics that are really tempting to post in is much a better incentive as people won't feel pressured to join just to read a few posts that are basically blank posts.

RE: Members-only Section

Im with Tamarro, I voted no, mainly for the same reasons he did, I think the forums are cluttered enough without adding more to the mix, let alone something like 'members only' section.

RE: Members-only Section

So this would be like a spam forum/light discussion?

Sounds good to me.

I voted no, I think Tamarro has a point. We could make some existing sections members-only instead.

That would defeat itself. Previously-existing sections need exposure, not closure.

I agree with the current number of sections comment, but one more or less would not make that a formidable difference.

RE: Members-only Section

I think we need a more informal section tho, like a spam forum.
