OMG, my ps2 seem to have a problem. It still can run bios, browse memory card, configuration but when I try to play games there some spinning noise come from my ps2. It can't play any PS2 games, PSone games, audio cd and DVD movies now. What's exactly happen? my PS2 is SCPH39001. I've google and found some tips which are:
Listen closely to it and let me know if it sounds like the disc is slipping. If it is, it could mean you'll need to remagnetize the magnet on the spindle the holds the disc to the motor when there's one in there. I've seen this more than once where the magnet gets weak over time, and needs to be replaced or remagnetized.

Usually by popping the little white plastic disc out that has the magnet in it, and stroking the magnet with a more powerful magnet. Here's a screenshot of where you can find the magnet.

Go with the first link (http://arstechnica.com/articles/paedia/h.../ps2.ars/1) Those are teh exact same steps I followed and it worked for me. Just keep in mind that you might have to open the PS2 up sometimes to fix the DRE's every now and then, but the guide works fine
I'm trying to adjust the angle of the Disc/Laser. My PS2 is SCPH39001 with 8 screw. What is the recommended angle for white gear? I mean starting from the bottom.
i'am preparing tutorial "how to fix a laser read errors", it will be at the hardware thread, when i'am finished.
ps.DO NOT MOVE LASER ADJUSTMENT SCREWS !!! IT CAN JUST MAKE IT WORST. Adjustment screws should be used if:
- you replaced lens and it is still not working
- you have an old laser and cleaning lens, adjusting pots and other tricks did not help.

Okay, here again with the same problem. This time it's my friend's PS2. SCPH 50006. I tried to adjust the white gear, but there are two white white gears. I learned that one for PS2 and another one is for PS1, is it correct? How to tell the different of it? Any guide on fixing this type of PS2? I only encounter a fix for PS2 with one white gear.
I've never heard of that. Can you post a photo of the two gears that you are talking about?

I only see what appears to be a white gear in the upper right corner of the CDVD bay. Where is the other one?
