Guide to IRC

While it's not really an announcement, I think something like a beginner's guide to IRC may help some people who may be interested in chatting, but not sure how to go about doing it. This guide will cover the basics on how to download, install and run an IRC client (I'll be using mIRC for my examples, but pretty much all clients work generally the same way). Anyways, here we go.

1. Download an IRC client

The first thing you need to do, obviously, is download a client to get on the IRC network. Your options available depend on what type of PC you're running and what OS it has installed.

Windows: The most popular client is mIRC. There are others, but this one is probably the best laid out anyone new to IRC and has a nice easy interface that makes chatting a breeze. You can download the latest version from here: http://mirc.com/get.html Example: /server irc.easynews.com

/part: This leaves the channel you are currently in.

This covers the basics of IRC and how it's used. If you need help with anything else, someone in the channel can probably answer any questions you may have. Hope this helps and we'll see you in the channels.Smile
