Good News...

I have some good news to share, a new exploit has been found in Firmwares 2.0-2.8 that has launched unsigned code (ie homebrew). This means that it will soon be possible to run emulators for people that updated or got a ta-082 mobo.
For a more in depth article, read here: http://pspupdates.qj.net/2-0-2-80-Firmwa.../aid/63483

RE: Good News...

w00t, a downgrader has been released for 2.71 PSP's, Source: http://pspupdates.qj.net/2-71-Downdater-.../aid/64291

On a semi unrelated note, @nevermore: in the emulation ON PSP thread you said you have 2.81... there isin't a 2.81 yet...

You should be slightly happy now that there is HB (though not full HB yet) on 2.8

RE: Good News...

When I got my psp it was a 2.01 firmware, I was mad when I found out I couldn't downgrade it, but soon I'll be able to run my homebrew crap on my PSP, thanks for the news.

RE: Good News...

Well, I just downgraded mine from 2.71 to 1.5(I had to upgrade it before from 2.6 to 2.71^^)

Pretty Happy with the Results, since everything is working just fine. Only the Wallpapers can't be changed anymore -_-

RE: Good News...

@blueshogun96: you know you can now downgrade, right? (you'll probably end up upgrading to 2.5 or 2.6, then downgrading, but it's still possible.)

@fabiank22: you actually can change the background, but you have to flash it (search out PSPersonlize)

RE: Good News...

Real psp emulator is in the work! Do not asked him when! Grin

Okay, here's the deal.

The PSP has ****loads of encryption all over it, making real emulation very very hard or impossible. I have tried, and succeeded, somewhat, using a more HLE approach. Information was gained from the ps2dev/pspdev project, and a little bit of reversing. The problem is that there are so many goddamn Sony libraries that have to be reversed and implemented, and with Sony releasing new functionality in every firmware it's impossible to keep up.

Another problem is that newer games don't include unencrypted binaries on the disc. For some reason unknown to me, the first hundred games or so did. Any later games are not going to work, unless the corresponding PSP firmware is hacked so that it can be used to predecrypt the binaries.

Anyway, some simple games are running. Check it out:

http://www.dtek.chalmers.se/~tronic/puzbobingame2.png

They're running about 50%-100% with an interpreter, but that's just because these games are so stupidly simple. More complex games would run a lot slower, but there's huge potential for good dynarecs on PSP. PSP, ignoring the problems of unknown hardware parts and unknown system libraries, is probably much easier to emulate at good speeds than the PS2.

Still, the problem of ever-increasing numbers and nastiness of librares, some completely unknown hardware (the media decoder stuff) etc make it near impossible to do a real emulator, as I already stated above.

I have not decided whether it's worth releasing.

Don't post this as front-page news either, this isn't an official announcement or anything.

Wish him the best of luck! Wink

RE: Good News...

I am not sure if I can tell where. It was other forum I registered there. This emulator is quiet right now so there is no news yet. Smile
