RE: Free Webhosting

a "pay site"? could you specify ?
well, Godaddy by default wouldnt be a bad choice. I have a slight liking for free webhosts for *non-professional* sites without high traffic burden (for personal sites, the burden of monthly/trimestrial/annual/periodic payments isnt very cool or necessary in the first place). going with proven known hosters would prove wiser than "no names". for hosting of serious projects and stuff, going with a paid host could prove more than welcome at least for ease of mind, if it looks affordable.

A reliable free host would be 110mb. pretty big, pretty popular, nicely active support forum.

mysql/fsockopen/htaccess is not avail in the default package, but theyre an inexpensive one-off payment to enable these (no periodic payments needed). reliable, fast, there for the long-term, what else to ask for?

RE: Free Webhosting

oh, i'm sorry i guess i wasnt clear. Like... can you please suggest me a site which is er... good in all terms. It doesnt have to be free (but not very expensive too Big Grin). Let me tell you what i'd like:

(EXCUSE ME FOR ALL THE U*$!(&%$@ DOTS)

i dont know how to explain this.... something like a blog... like... in a blog you can post news right... so instead of editing the html just for adding some news like "there's a new picture and a program i've made somewhere" all i got to do is just click something and type something down and click "post" or something.... and other than that... i just need some decent space and bandwidth for my pictures and my programs (~3-4 MB each) and my bro's GFx engine's project... and other small stuff like my tutorials etc...

I'm really sorry if i'm very weak in delivering my message... i just dont know how to explain what i want to say.... plus... i really have NOOOO clue about web hosting, how it's done ... etc

+... thanks for the reply HCR Big Grin

AAAAND HCR>>> YOUR @&$(!&*%(&@@*%& AWESOME MAN>>> !!0MB IS THE BEST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Man there's this problem... I just installed phpnuke into a directory on the site.... its asking me this stuff... what do i do?:

Host Name
This is usually 'localhost'
MySQL User Name
Either something as 'root' or a username given by the hoster
MySQL Password
For site security using a password for the mysql account is mandatory
MySQL Database Name
Set the database name for your new PHP-Nuke powered site.

Unique security Site Key will be generated by the system after the installation

System Errors Display and Graphic Security Check will be set to OFF by default

Any modification for these and other configuration variables will require to manualy edit config.php file

RE: Free Webhosting

with 110mb, if mysql is not unlocked, you cant use a locally hosted database (when it's available from the same hoster, it's location is generally "localhost"). for databases setup and management, i suggest you take some time to acquaint yourself with the procedures.

here's a place that freely hosts ONLY mysql databases (which are the actual meat of dynamic sites. CAUTION, dont forget to backup your databases at periodic intervals, downtimes and similar accidents are possible. this host basically allows people to bypass 110mb's recent restriction on mysql)

http://www.freemysql.net/v2/

there is another good mysql hoster, but as it is very experimental test service for the newest mysql versions, its significantly unreliable and prone to frequent downtimes.
