No need to shell out any money for personal sites, when a single banner/ad can cover expenses.
Ideally, *your* own ads should be allowed (hey, could even make revenue, if not just cover costs for paid hosting).

Sites ideally should have forums after all. I'll personally be setting a new one for myself these days, will probably go phpfreehosting as well, or another one from my list.
I'll be adding a few excellent ASP (windows-based) hosts here later. No sense keeping all the fun for the PHP zealots

Well, i got my head around it And actually found a another good site, http://www.quotaless.com, it's quite generous with bandwidth/space, for both you get 2147483647 MB, thats space and bandwidth Not too bad for a free acount.

I got my tobiahost account back btw.

It seems Tobiahost doesnt carry (no longer?) free hosting now.
Tried quotaless, was unimpressed. Fast in china, hongkong and taiwan, *very* slow for everyone else. Their forced keywords and flash ads are also really annoying. It seems they have CHMOD ability disablde or somethin too

Well I signed with quotaless only to find some filetypes are restricted which means bye bye Mybb mods, some themes and a host of other mods/themes. I put in a support ticket and haven't heard anything yet, the support ticket hasn't even been viewed.

I'm looking for a free Webhost which doesn't have restrictions on filetypes. They need to have PHP/MySQL so I can use Forum Software/CMS on my website. They need to offer a choice of subdomains and the ability to add your own.

Preferably I'm looking for a host that offers between 500 MB - 1 Gig or more of space and 5 - 10 or more gigs of bandwidth a month. Ad free preferred, Don't mind Ads as long as they are unobtrusive and not in your face.

Also I looked through the offers posted in this thread, I don't think some are available anymore and others don't suit my needs. I don't have a job atm so I can't afford paid hosting for the time being but will be looking for paid hosting as soon as I get accepted for a job and have the necessary funds to get or keep a paid account.

I want to open an emulation website which offers emulation news, updates, legal non-copyrighted downloads, software/game news, tech support for emulation and PC/Electronics/Hardware, software where everyone can gather to help others who need help and discuss world events as well.

Also the host has to be pretty lenient on what they allow, freephphosting and quotaless impose a draconian TOS. Not to mention I can't use certain useful mods for Mybb on quotaless or freephphosting because of a
filetype restriction they impose.

Also I can't get the confirmation email to arrive in my inbox for freephphosting as it never arrives to my inbox nor my spam folder.

Even linking to generalemu or to a site that links to generalemu is suspension material (even in sigs, even in other people's sigs), and worst of all, they contact the local enforcement agencies at the drop of a hat.

Apart from the hyperhostile terms, x10 and zendurl seem to be the best ones, provided you keep it FULLY 100% ENTIRELY LEGAL and AT ALL TIMES, not going even into any 'grey' zones for any reason.
PS: contesting their decisions and views is also suspension material. Trying to argue with them that emulation is legal, will definitely have your info sent to the local c0ps

Those combined with false registration info such as name, age, phone, city and address of residence will give no one anything to go on so their attempts of reporting will be futile.

They'll just ask the tor server for the info, if its too severe. No need to go to such lengths anyway, if theres any problem, your site is down, deleted, and dissected for useful infos like emails, forum usernames, IP of visitors and members and such

In any case, as this point was cleared, no need to discuss it further. Strict terms of service, is all people need to know, as I suspect many dont even read the TOS or understand these...

Well, I dont see why not.. But its entirely upto you really. If you think its fine, its definetely a go. I guess it'd be great if you could take a look around for more info and the risks, benefits and disadvantages

oversellers. to avoid no matter what. ill elaborate on those later. they also have no credible ways to guarantee either these numbers or uptime. digg effect, high ressource usage, and your account is down. despite the high numbers, they allow only a limited fraction of these, which are mentioned nowhere. get past them, and your site is out
