I was told that only Oct 2001 Dreamcast console can play backup games but newer dreamcast console will not.. Is that true ?

AFAIK all dreamcast consoles play backups.
I don't know which version I have, but mine plays backups without problems.

the only thing the dreamcast is picky about is media.
some dreamcasts will play with a certain brand of cd while others want.its just trial and error.

I've found that my Dreamcast seems to load BenQ and Sony CD-Rs, Sony ones with less hassle, sometimes it takes several restarts for BenQ discs to boot.

DO YOU MEAN VIDJA GAMES ISOS? LIKE DOWNLOADED FREE OF CHARGE I.S.O.s? THOSE THAT ARE GETTING THE GOVNERMENT GO "RARRRRRRWWRR!"

I have two dreamcasts, one from launch and another from europe about a year ago. The only difference I have noticed is the cooling between the two is alot different and not being able to read the DreamOn disc on the european dc. Though, they both seem to run backup's just fine whether its NTSC or Pal.
