DVD Player Software?

I need an easy and quick DVD player, better if fully compatible with Vista. WMP gets a green screen when I run DVDs with it and PowerDVD kinda bores me.

Thumbsup

RE: DVD Player Software?

I'm not sure if it works with vista but I suggest a Media Player Classic.

RE: DVD Player Software?

What about Windows Media Center? It's included in my Windows Vista and it should play DVDs as there is a function for it there.

RE: DVD Player Software?

AVS DVD Player worked when I didn't have any codecs to play DVD movies. It was free too IIRC.

RE: DVD Player Software?

MPC is pretty much the best out there, I like the way it handles DVDs. But when that's not working for me, I use either VLC or PowerDVD.

Keep hearing. You might want to keep a portable version of VLC on usb just handy.

Technically, Media Player Classic prefitted with a recent FFdshow should be all you need to be present on video CD/DVDs, and USB device.

RE: DVD Player Software?

I had problems playing my Final Fantasy VII Advent Children DVD in my PC for a while.
It seem to play fine in every other device, but in my PC, you'd insert it and the PC would freeze up on the sony logo, no matter what program you used.
Turned out after googling the problem, that it was infact the DVD's copy protection, which was quickly fixed by installing slysoft anyDVD.

It's one thing to copy protect DVDs, but to hinder playback of them is going too far.

RE: DVD Player Software?

You can either emulate the ISO using emulation software, burn the ISO and use it as a disc or extract the contents of the ISO.
I use Alcohol 120%, but it's not free... I think Daemon tools is free, but last time I checked it came with spyware or something (not sure though).

RE: DVD Player Software?

just mount ISO in Damon Tools Lite (its the same as the old uncrippled DT basically, no missing features compared to it)

if its a DVD image, you might prefer to actually *rip* the entire disc to a folder, then have wathever player just read the files from the HDD. nice especially with badly scratched dvd discs (excellent movie rippers: dvd decrypter and dvdfabdecrypter).

you might want to give The K-Mplayer a try, alternatively (its based on a GPL violation of Gabest's MediaPlayerClassic code btw, though this point is a little nonrelevant to the technical merits of that player)
