RE: Core 2 DUO
Faster, and two cores rather than one. I'd guess that a Core 2 at 2.0GHz is probably at least 15% faster (though it could be faster than that depending on the task) than a Pentium 4 at 3.4GHz, and that's not counting the fact that you have two processors to work with instead of one.

RE: Core 2 DUO
Any C2D >> Pentium 4
In terms of power usage it's the other way around though
Especially in games that will start to use dual core in an effective way it will shine.

RE: Core 2 DUO
Yep, my new C2D laptop beats my desktop Prescotts by quite a noticeable margin, although on the other hand the laptop has a crap video card. Oh well, can't win all the time. I didn't pick the laptop with a GeForce Go because I don't want to deal with heat issues like many customers complained on the forums - and that little beast runs practically as hot as the Prescott, temp monitor shows almost the same 40ish-70ish idle-to-full-load range.
Of course, this is the tropics, and I was playing games in an un-airconditioned room.

DRM's sole purpose is to maximize revenues by minimizing your rights to be sold back to you.

My core 2 duo runs pretty hot, 40-60 range most of the time, 70s under loads. Sounds a bit normal to me. What kind of laptop did you get? I have a friend that is running PCSX2 on a Intel 945 chipset and it seems to not be doing that bad with the core2duo by it's side. Leads me to believe graphics are DEFINATLY not everything for that emu at least...

Only with AA and AF, and bilinear filtering and such graphical effect you will notice the Intel chipset being very slow. Otherwise emulation relies on the processor for 90%.

RE: Core 2 DUO
Well, I took the oportunity to try resident evil 4, and it it seems that even my x1700 card might be someone video limited in that game. Thats not to say that the majority of games will be a problem, just a few of em i've noticed actually are affected by vc performance.
Like final fantasy x and x-2 have 0 performance difference that I can tell unless ya have AA on.
